Tubi Enters Its Cartoon Era

Image
Fans of Cartoon Network and Warner Bros Animation haven't had a lot of victories in the last couple of years. Cartoon Network abandoned their webpage and shifted everything to HBO Max, then called MAX.  The Boomerang stand-alone streaming service shuttered and threw everything to MAX. Then MAX dropped nearly everything animated, including nearly every Cartoon Network series, every Hanna-Barbera cartoon including The Flintstones, The Jetsons , and Scooby-Do o, Tom & Jerry, and even the venerable classic Looney Tunes shorts and most of the spinoffs. The message seemed clear to the "fandom:" Warner Bros HATES cartoons. It did look bleak, but something started happening in spring 2024. First, Warner Bros launched Cartoon Rewind, a FAST channel that aired older and seemingly random cartoons. Silverhawks, Beetlejuice, Richie Rich, Shirt Tales, Pac-Man, Challenge of the Go-Bots, Mister T, Pirates of Dark Water, Thundarr the Barbarian, Fantastic Max, Centurions, Police Aca...

Cartoon Network Fans Are (Still) Going Through Things

Do you watch Cartoon Network? I have to ask this question because I get the feeling a lot of folks who claim to be fans of the channel really don't. The ones who have been so vocal about the latest news , especially in regard to the library and studio (who kind of missed the news that both were folded into Warner Bros Animation back in 2023 as well as literally anything regarding the network itself since then ) and the latest from Comcast saying they're dropping Cartoon Network from Xfinity's Core linear package and putting it in the More Sports and Entertainment package for an additional $10 a month where it'll be included with fellow WBD network TCM and NBA TV as well as NFL Network, NFL Red Zone, Big 10 Network, CBS Sports, and Military History Channel starting on August 12. Oh, and DirecTV dropped Cartoon Network from its entertainment-only package but kept Adult Swim there (they literally air nothing in that channel space from 5 PM to 6 AM E/P every day now).  They...

Make This Make Sense

There is a very, very stupid rumor out there right now about how Discovery, the second most poorly run entertainment company on the planet (Paramount Global is far, far, far worse, but you'd never know that if you only paid attention to the animation side of social media or only read entertainment rags), is thinking of selling off the entire Looney Tunes brand. I still believe it's a stupid rumor created by someone looking for (and getting) a lot of clicks from an already paranoid fanbase who has seen Discovery take the 300+ Looney Tunes shorts (not even the entire 1000 golden age theatrical shorts was on the site) off of the service that has no problem clogging the once-premium streaming platform with 249 seasons of House Hunters with over 1900 half-hour episodes  (seriously, check that link, there are 249 seasons of that show and counting),  26 seasons and nearly 350 episodes of Curb Appeal , 51 seasons and nearly 550 episodes of Diners , Drive-Ins, and Dives , or every se...

What to Do with WBD's Networks?

If you've followed Thoughtnami over the past 20 years, thank you for your patronage and your support . It's so great to be back writing posts like this after all of these years. It feels more natural and less constrictive than tweets and occasional posts across social media. You also know that when it comes to one particularly Hollywood media company, I have a love-hate relationship with them. And that studio has had many names during the course of those two decades. AOL Time Warner.  Time Warner. WarnerMedia. Warner Bros Discovery. And they've all been called "the most poorly run media company" by me throughout those two decades. Now, granted, I may be a little hyperbolic with that statement. They're really not the most poorly run media company (looking at you both, Paramount Global and Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment), but considering the two years the current management team of David Zaslav (President and CEO), Gunnar Wiedenfels (Chief Financial ...

Boomerang: It's (Probably) All Coming Back to You on MAX

I guess the vineyards heard the news that the Boomerang streaming platform is shutting down on September 30 with many of the shows on the site migrating over to MAX, and everybody is being completely rational and acting mature and cordial about this latest news from Warner Bros Discovery. I'm lying, of course. They're panicking, freaking out, and being pessimistic about the fate of everything around them. In other words, it's another day that ends in "Y" to my English-speaking friends.  Look, I completely empathize with those worried about the future of the shows on the Boomerang app. Warner Bros Discovery hasn't exactly been the best steward of animation in recent years.  Granted, they're still putting animated titles on physical home media including high-quality restorations of shows, shorts, and movies, putting more of the library on many streaming platforms including Netflix, Tubi, Hulu, and Freevee (which exclusively houses WB TV's Cartoon Rewind ...
